New walkthroughs for February 2023

Trouble in Sector 471 (2022) by Arthur DiBianca

In this limited-command game, you play as Exter-17, a bot who exterminates bugs. You are dispatched to Sector 471 to first fix a power outage, then to eliminate all the bugs there. Useful bots will be rewarded!

This game was an entry in IF Comp 2022 where it took 5th place.

Diddlebucker! (2018) by J Michael

In this game, you play as a one-person team in the 27th Annual All-Night Diddlebucker Run after your teammates, Lori and David, ditched you to elope with each other. Well, who needs them anyway? If you’re the first “team” to reach the secret finish line with all four of your team’s treasures, you’ll win one million dollars and a lifetime supply of Diddlebucker Popcorn! Let’s go!

This game was an entry in IF Comp 2018 where it took 30th place.

Alias ‘The Magpie’ (2018) by J. J. Guest

In this game, you play as Sir Rodney Playfair who is secretly the notorious gentleman thief called “The Magpie”. It would delight you to unburden Lord Hamcester of his extremely valuable Egyptian jewelled scarab and a chance overheard discussion has provided you with an opportunity. You shall visit Bunkham Hall disguised as the noted psychiatrist, Doctor Cornelius Drake, supposedly to treat the Lord’s addled brother-in-law who is suffering from delusions.

This game was an entry in IF Comp 2018 where it won 1st place overall; it also won Miss Congeniality. At the 2018 XYZZY Awards, it won the Best Individual PC award for the Magpie; it was also the finalist in six other categories (Best Game, Best Writing, Best Story, Best Setting, Best NPCs, and Best Implementation). In the 2019 edition of the Interactive Fiction Top 50 of All Time, it placed 46th.

The Quest of the Golden Banana (2004) by Eric Eve

In this large game, you decide to explore the famous Eerhtsdat Caves on a whim. You’ll find several strange tablets, befriend a woman named Sarah, ride a ship in an underground lake, time travel in a Tardis, disturb a ghost, and carry the Golden Banana of Discord to Mount Doom!

This game was primarily written as an example game to provide a tutorial on the adv3 library for aspiring TADS 3 game authors, but it’s significantly larger than a typical example game.

The Ghost Ship (2015) by Jonathan Snyder

In this small game, you play as Pierce, one of the newly dead after your fall down the lighthouse stairs. You wake in a cell of a ghost ship. It’s disgusting, decaying, and crewed by zombies. Escape before any of them can kill you again!

This game was an entry in La Petite Mort division of Ectocomp 2015 where it took 7th place.

Heezy Park (2015) by Andrew Schultz

In this short chase game, you’re a trick-or-treater whose bag of candy was just stolen by that bully Half Nelson. He’s running south into Heezy Park. He’s bigger and faster than you, but he is carrying a lot of candy. Maybe you can catch up?

This game was an entry in La Petite Mort division of Ectocomp 2015 where it took 3rd place.

Open That Vein (2015) by Chandler Groover

In this surreal game with a limited command set, are you prepared to open that vein? If yes, what will you find inside? And what will your mother say? Whatever happens, this is the way it’s meant to be.

This game was an entry in La Petite Mort division of Ectocomp 2015 where it took 1st place.

In this very short game, you play as someone in the corridor of a medical clinic. Something bad will happen if you go back. You must escape.

In this short story, you play as someone emerging from the ocean outside a deserted city, the SkyCrane looming far overhead in the upper atmosphere. Two endings.

The Story of the Shinoboo (2015) by Adri

In this small installment of the tiny ninjas saga, you play as the tiny red ninja on Halloween. Find a costume and go Trick or Treating!

This game was an entry in La Petite Mort division of Ectocomp 2015 where it took 4th place.
